Topic: group caricature

I want a caricature of a group, but I’m worried about the price…

A common question is how to make large group caricatures more affordable, because yes price can run away pretty darned quickly (not say of course that this does not mean they are not excellent value for money!)

By the time you have 10 or more people in a  group it is really time to be thinking creatively.

Yes there is a solution!!

This is where the scene and the overall message becomes the influencing factor.

First up who MUST be full body? Is there a team leader, coach or captain that means they should be (or even a couple of key players).

Next what is the theme? This could be related to the activity and provides the infrastructure for hiding bodies. Think, office or other workplace, vehicle of some sort or even natural surroundings.

What this does is bases the price predominantly on head and shoulders rather than full body.

Here are some examples (click for slightly bigger)

Then there is also integration with an existing photo that can also work well (the images below are only quick mock-ups). All you need to do is arrange the people with the view to where the caricatured person/people might fit in. (Click for slightly bigger).

Military graduation team caricature

A popular art gift amongst military are graduation caricatures of the training team that is presented to the trainers for display on their wall. Some training teams have traditionally had a group photo taken but increasingly the trend is to go for something unique.

Here is one just completed by artist Zalo who was tasked with This request:

We are Australian Air Force undergoing training in the USA, and were looking to get a caricature created of us for our US Instructors, going away from the traditional photo and plaque idea.
Also humour is greatly welcomed. We’ve thrown around ideas of someone laying in the engine intake, and/or riding on top or hanging from the small wings either side of the engine. Or all of the above! Any other ideas you might have are appreciated.

The customer’s feedback:

Caricature King were excellent to deal with. It was as simple as sending photos and guidelines for the artist, and they did their thing. Our artist (Zalo) provided us with a draft in which we could makes changes and suggestions to the final product, which arrived in approximately a week after purchase, and looked great.
Overall a great service is provided by Caricature King and would definitely recommend them to someone looking for an image for a gift or personal use.

This is the image that now graces the training facility!

Group caricature with fun!

Here is a fun group caricature created for a repeat customer.

Featuring 15 guys to mark a celebration in a footy bet this group caricature art proposal was faced with a challenge.

With so many people costs soon mount up when looking at full bodies for each, we worked with the client to explore ways of reigning in the price for the art without reducing the number of people.

The art had to have a water-based theme, as the guy from the losing bet had to be holding a fish and an anchor needed to also feature.

Through collaboration and swapping of ideas with the client, we finally agreed on the submarine as a way of having quite a few of the group as head and shoulders, while the key players were half and full bodies.

The client was able to provide some great photos for the caricature to be drawn from that is always welcomed.

As you will see the result is a cool and innovative piece of mildly caricatured artwork that will be treasure for years to come!
